Château de Falaise, medieval fortress perched on a hill, surrounded by greenery and blue sky.

Chateau de Falaise (67km from Crepon)

The town of Falaise is ideally located on the north-south and east-west axes. This is undoubtedly one of the reasons why the town suffered particularly during the fighting of the summer of 1944. This town, where "Belle Arlette" is said to have given birth to the future William the Conqueror, has nevertheless preserved several sites that have contributed to the region's renown. The castle, for example, the birthplace of William the Conqueror, was built between the 11th and 13th centuries. Also noteworthy are the large square keep, dating from the reign of Henry I Beauclerc, and la tour known as "Tour Talbot," built by Philip Augustus in 1207. Falaise experienced significant economic growth from the 12th century onwards.
