Tourism in the Orne region and its equestrian culture,
including the famous Haras du Pin
Orne, Perche and Suisse Normande
The Orne department became a major center of equestrian culture with the construction of the famous Haras du Pin, a monument erected on the orders of Louis XIV to celebrate humankind's noblest conquest. But while this region became the cradle of the horse, it also boasts an extremely diverse heritage, both in terms of its buildings and its landscape and natural features. Castles, manor houses, churches and abbeys, houses and farms were built using materials sourced from the region.
Also worth discovering are the numerous museums and other local collections that allow visitors to explore the history of the Orne and the Perche region. This history, shaped by wars, alliances, and prominent families, also includes the everyday stories of ordinary people, told through their trades, arts, and folk traditions.
